Meet the artist: Eva Timothy
Eva Timothy grew up in Bulgaria in a time where religion was not allowed. But she always felt there was something more. After the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, she was finally able to search for the light she was looking for. She came across the missionaries as a teenager and was especially drawn to the images of Christ they used to teach the gospel.
Eva brought the missionaries home to meet her parents and all three were baptized. She later came to the United States for college and even served a mission in New York City. Later, she graduated in communications with an emphasis in film and photography.
For the last 15 years, Eva has worked as a fine art photographer, but it was only in the last three years that she felt the urge to create art centered around Jesus Christ, such as the piece now sold at Deseret Book.
Her process begins with a prayer to help decide what scene she wants to create, then she gets her whole family involved. Her husband and children pose for her photos while dressed in clothing that feels appropriate. But, Eva is careful never to use faces in her work. She wants the viewer to feel they can step into the image and be a part of the scene.
