How to start your Christmas Jars tradition
This year, the popular and heartwarming Christmas classic, Christmas Jars, aired on the big screen and is now on DVD. The sweet story of service during the Christmas season has touched so many hearts and lives and continues to inspire others to reach out and do good.
Since 2005 when the book was released, many have started their own Christmas Jars tradition. A relatively simple and quick activity can make such a big impact in someone’s life.
Start your Christmas Jar
Start with a special Christmas Jar and add whatever spare change, extra cash, or loose coins you have in your wallet. Then over time add more and more and watch your jar slowly fill up higher and higher. During the holiday season, or when you feel so inspired, think about the people in your neighborhood, community, and family, and ask yourself if you know of anyone in need of a little extra support or holiday cheer. Drop your jar off anonymously with a short note explaining the purpose of the jar. The beauty of this tradition is that you can really start any time of year!
Family Movie Guide
If you watch the movie, take a look at our viewers guide and ask your family these questions to inspire an attitude of service during the Christmas season:
How do you think Hope felt when she realized her apartment had been robbed?
Which Christmas Jar story from the movie was your favorite?
Why do you think the jars are always anonymous?
How can having hope help us when we are having a hard time?
Is there anyone you know of that could use a little extra help or support right now?
